About a Boy

Will is a rich, child-free, irresponsible Londoner who, in search of available women, invents an imaginary son and starts attending single parent meetings. As a result of his liaisons, he meets Marcus, an odd 12-year-old with problems at school and a depressed mother at home. Gradually Will and Marcus become friends, as Will teaches Marcus how to be a cool kid, Marcus helps Will finally grow up, fall in love and possibly even commit to a real adult relationship with a lovely single mother.

Hugh Grant plays a very confirmed bachelor, who is befriended, rather against his will by a young boy who has no father and a rather inadequate mother. Although amusing and slightly moving at times, the film stumbles along from one crisis to another and one tends to feel that all the characters are only getting what they deserve. It all gets sorted out in the end, more by luck than judgement, but you are left with the feeling that nothing really happened so why bother watching.
